Chinese Ming 19th Century Huanghuali Wood Chairs & Bench Set Vintage Antique. Ming Horseshoe Chair & Bench Set. This is a really stunning set and very elegant. These Ming style horseshoe chairs are made from huanghuali wood, which is the traditional material used to make this style of chair. The craftsmanship is undeniable, featuring some really beautiful joinery and bent wood components.
The grain of the wood is complex and varied which is typical of huanghuali as it's such a slow growing tree. Less elaborate than tradition 17th century style horseshoe chairs we presume that this item was made much more recently in the 20th century.
