Unusual shape wooden box, probably Italian dating from the 1940s/1950s. I have seen this style referred to as Tunbridge or Sorrentoware but I cannot confirm. This would originally have been a cigarette box but now has a lift-off tray for jewellery instead, plus further space in the base. There is inlaid decoration everywhere except the bottom surface.

The top is mostly covered in a micro mosaic pattern in a number of colours. There are two drawers accessed from the front. All storage areas are lined in brown material.

Lifting the lid activates the musical movement in the bottom compartment. Switzerland LADOR movement plays "Estudiantina". For the age I think condition is excellent with some marks accumulated over the years of use. Please study the photographs to appreciate the quality.
